The weekend of 28th-29th of November was one to remember. SIMA has put on an intensive vocal course unlike anything we’ve seen so far at SIS. As you probably already know, we’ve invited two very special vocal experts to share their knowledge and experience with all the participants. The result, after only two days of practice, was something to behold.
Monique Thomas, a renowned international vocal coach in the SLS/IVA vocal training method, has put together a real gospel choir in record time. The kids blew everyone’s socks off with their final performance which has to be seen to be believed! Even Monique said they sounded awesome.
Meanwhile, Dharni Ng, the two-time World Beatboxing champion, literally floored everyone with his incredible vocal antics, getting the crowd – kids and parents alike – to break out in spontaneous cheering, whooping and applauding every few seconds. This guy’s skills are simply mad!
The Vocal Weekend event was rounded off with a visit to our brand new recording studio, where everyone got to try out the vocal booths and got exposed to state-of-the-art music production techniques, under the guidance of songwriter/producer Paul Sedkowski.
The entire event was coordinated and organized by Miss Laura Krier, with fantastic support from our head of music, Mr Kerry Wickersham, who was ably assisted by Mr Daniel Felton throughout the process.
The stamina and focus of all the participants, whose ages ranged from 8 to 17, impressed everyone from organizers to parents alike. It takes a special kind of dedication and discipline to be able to get through two full back-to-back intensive vocal training days, and then to get out there and put on a show that had the whole room swaying and cheering, genuinely impressed. Well done everyone, you do us proud!
