Zero To Hero: FAST!

Many of our SIMA artists are looking for ways to improve their singing and musical skills as quickly as possible – especially now that we’ve opened doors to some internationally renowned televised music talent contests. 🙂 In response to this demand, here’s our little course!

Today, the first installment.

INTRODUCTION – Adapt Your Schedule!

Are you SERIOUS? And you LOVE music? In that case adapting your schedules to fit around your music goals should be no problem! 🙂

From now on PLAN to spend some time EVERY DAY – including weekends and holidays – on carefully following this little course. We recommend ONE HOUR, but you can start with 15 or 30 minutes and increase your time as you get better organized. We promise, it will be FUN. But more importantly, if will TRANSFORM you into a HOT singer/musician in record time!

You think you’re too busy?

EVERYBODY – even the most insanely busy people – can find a few minutes to an hour a day for something they truly LOVE doing. Remember our first question? “Are you SERIOUS, and do you LOVE music?” If the answer is YES, then you’ll find SOME time. Maybe some minutes in the morning, then some minutes after school and then a few minutes just before bedtime?

And what should you DO during that hour (or whatever time you allocate to this)?

It’s mostly really fun and interesting stuff, which you will almost certainly LOVE doing.

I will give you each step in this course. Just make sure to come back here regularly to check for updates and new chapter releases. Best just sign up for automatic updates in the comments below this post. I will update each new chapter as often as I can find time, every few days for sure.

Let’s get started.

CHAPTER 1 – Music Immersion

This means you need to dive into music like you would dive into a swimming pool. And stay there, uninterrupted for a set amount of time. EVERY DAY.

Sounds like fun? It IS!

The only “catch” is that you should listen to specific kinds of music that we will recommend. Sometimes we will recommend specific songs, other times broad musical styles.

And the only other thing you must do while listening is to do NOTHING ELSE.

JUST LISTEN.

  • If you listen on YouTube, try to avoid the temptation to watch the video. Just LISTEN.
  • Turn the music up loud enough so most other sounds won’t interfere – but not so loud so as to disturb the rest of your household!
  • Chances are that some of the music we will ask you to listen to is not yet familiar to you. Welcome this novelty! You’re about to learn some things you will rarely hear in modern pop. One of your challenges will be to figure out what that is.

As we add chapters to this mini-course, you will have to divide your DAILY music work into segments. For example, 15 minutes listening, and the rest for other activities. Or whatever works. But THIS FIRST WEEK, we won’t distract you with anything else!

In fact, if you should stumble on this course for the first time at a later date, do not rush to the next chapter until you’ve spent the first week simply listening to recommended music for an hour (or whatever you can spare) each day!

Before we start – keep a DIARY. After each song, pause for a minute or two and write down anything that comes to mind about what you listened to. .

For your DIARY at the end of the week: please also write down these observations:

  • Which song(s) stuck with you the most and you’ll want to listen again?
  • Which artist(s) has made the biggest impression on you?
  • Are you beginning to see differences between the various styles? Write down what you currently think they are.
  • Now, entirely from memory: sing the first line of your favorite song this week. If you can’t remember the lyrics, just hum the melody. Now, go to your keyboard (or virtual keyboard, or a guitar) and find the first note on it. Write it down. Now find your favorite song and play the opening line. Find the first note on your keyboard. Is it the same note as you remembered?
