Affiliate and CPA marketing is one of the most popular online business models on the Internet today. And there is good reason for its popularity. Affiliate marketing can be very lucrative IF you know what is already priced right and selling well, where to get it and how to sell it. But where can you find objective information among the millions of sites and affiliate sales pitches out there?

In most cases, it’s very simple to set up your own affiliate code for any given product, service or CPA offer – and from that point on, whenever somebody buys through your link – you’re making commissions. Just make sure that the cookie lifetime of your affiliate link is sufficient (some cookies expire quickly, others – like Clickbank – expire after 60 days, and others still never expire).

There are a few different types of affiliate models, from digital products (from networks such as Clickbank) to physical products (e.g. Amazon) or CPA offers. There are also various services and membership systems all of which offer a commission if you send them clients.

In a typical situation a digital product will have a much higher commission, sometimes as high as 75% – and even cases of 100% (!) are not uncommon (that’s when they want you to sell and keep ALL the profit, knowing that people will click through on the links within their product and they will make their money on the back-end in that way). But the price you pay for this high commission is that these products are a much harder sell for a mainstream audience.

Physical products, on the other hand, tend to be much easier to sell and don’t require much pre-selling effort – but they pay much less. Often no more than 3-5% or maybe 8%, tops.

Knowing how much you earn per sale will inform your traffic acquisition strategies as well as your conversion projections.

If you make $100 on a digital product but project to only make 1 sale per 10,000 visits from a particular traffic source which cost you $200 – you will make a loss. It’s this type of calculation that you need to be able to do in order to be able to make things work for you in the IM world.

Conversely, if you make $10 on a physical product but expect to make 20 sales from a traffic load of 10,000 from a particular source which cost you $200 – you’ll just about break even.

Naturally, when you make your budgets you need to use the lowest realistic numbers for the incomes and highest realistic numbers for the costs. If your result is positive – you’re probably on the right path!

As for the list I present below, it’s pretty comprehensive and should keep you busy for a few days just studying and making your mind up about which products to promote and where to find the best offers and commissions. There are many more affiliate networks out there and there are tens or thousands – perhaps even millions – of products and services which have affiliate programs on the web, but are not members of any networks.
